SNEYD STRIDERS

Sneyd Striders Running Club was founded in 1984 by John and Rita Pedley with John being the primary organiser and chairman, while Rita took control of the secretarial duties.

The club, based at the Sneyd Community School in Vernon Way, Bloxich in the West Midlands expanded rapidly at a time when road running enjoyed a high profile with membership soon topping 100. The role of the club was and remains to promote running and fitness to all levels of ability. To this end, a new beginners evening has recently been established by Glyn and two of his colleagues at the club, Steve Bujdoso and Kevin Postins in order to encourage new membership without  the  fear  of intimidation about competing against some of the

more experienced runners. So far the theory is working as the evening has attracted several youngsters including Glyn’s own son Liam Marston, still a young teenager. New members are generally afforded a few weeks settling in period before being required to pay full membership fees.

The club is affiliated to the Midland Counties Athletic Association and the Staffordshire County Athletic Association for road and cross country running. With a nine strong committee elected at an annual general meeting held in February the club currently meets three times a week. In addition to organised races, the club also hold a number of social events throughout the year including quiz nights, skittles evenings, greyhound racing, coach trips etc and of course the Annual Presentation Evening .

Full advice on training, safety, kit and rule book are provided. Anyone interested in joining or finding out more about Sneyd Striders may contact the club using the link provided on the links page to their own website.
